Major and Minor

Degree Programs

The MRST Director works with students to ensure program requirements are met.
ECU Course Catalog: Please consult the most recent catalog.

Major

Through the Multidisciplinary Studies BA Program (30 credit hours plus foreign language) and BS Program (42 credit hours), students may design an individualized concentration in consultation with a faculty mentor. For details, please refer to the current Undergraduate Catalog, or speak to the Director of Medieval and Renaissance Studies.

Minor

The minor requires 24 student credit hours including 6 from the two MRST introductory courses (2400 & 2500 or equivalents) and 18 from elective courses. Many of the courses count towards general education and/or writing intensive requirements.

Study abroad program courses may count, with approval of the director, for up to 6 credit hours. Also, additional electives will be accepted if they significantly further the student’s understanding of the Middle Ages or the Renaissance. See the list of ‘Alternatives’ below. Departmental prerequisites may be waived in special cases. Students should contact the MRST Director and/or their major Department Advisor.

With an average of 16 MRST courses and electives offered each year, the minor can easily be fit into any major program of study. See Academic Advising for guides to completing your major, that is model schedules for each year and semester, which indicate when to take courses for general education and the minor.
